US Ambassador to Azerbaijan visits occupied Shushi

ArmInfo.The Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights of the People of Artsakh issued a  statement in connection with the repeated violation of the rights of Artsakh people by Azerbaijan. The statement notes that on March 8, 2024, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree appointing a  judge and chairman of the city court of Stepanakert, the capital of the occupied Artsakh Republic.

ArmInfo.Following the events last fall in Nagorno-Karabakh, USAID plans to provide nearly 8.5 million in  psychosocial support and address housing and shelter needs for displaced persons and refugees.  Erin McKee, USAID Assistant Administrator, stated at a briefing held at the US State Department.

In a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Senators Ed Markey (D-MA), Bill  Cassidy (R-LA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Gary Peters (D-MI) called on the Biden Administration to prioritize the release of Armenian prisoners of war and Artsakh's political leadership illegally detained by Azerbaijan as a precondition for negotiations, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).  

ArmInfo. Prior to the joint meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the  President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, scheduled on 5 April in Brussels, the Europeans for Artsakh platform has addressed a LETTER to the EU  leadership, emphasizing the dire need of housing of the forcibly displaced indigenous Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh/Artsakh.

Accompanied by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), two people were  transported from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia on March 29.  As  ICRC Armenia Office Communications Program Manager Zara Amatuni  told the Armenian media representatives, since October last year, more than 50  people have been transferred to Armenia with the help of the ICRC, and emphasized that the Organization assists in transferred solely at the request of the citizens.

ArmInfo. Former Artsakh Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan called on the Armenian government to act  exclusively within the law. 

ArmInfo. In Armenia, control by public organizations over the living conditions of persons granted  asylum will be strengthened. At a meeting on April 2, the Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia issued a positive conclusion on the draft amendments to the law "On Refugees and  Asylum."

There are four issues on the agenda of the Artsakh Ombudsman as oftoday: international support and social and humanitarian problems of forcibly displaced Artsakh residents in Armenia, work towards ensuring the right of Artsakh residents to return to their homeland, as well as protecting the rights and return of hostages and prisoners and work to preserve the spiritual and historical-cultural heritage.

Azerbaijan is pursuing a systemic genocidal policy towards the Armenian people, and if we resist it through a concessionary and defeatist position, this will lead us to new tragedies, Gegham Stepanyan, the human rights defender of Nagorno-Karabakh, stated on March 29, speaking at the American University of Armenia.

The "Europeans for Artsakh" platform brought together the representatives from Armenian communities across Europe in Brussels to collaborate on advancing the defense of the rights of Armenians in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh. Representatives from the Armenian communities in Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Netherlands, Romania, United Kingdom were present.

ArmInfo. With their actions, certain circles from Artsakh are crossing the line that cannot remain  unanswered, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on March 28 at a government meeting.

ArmInfo.Samvel Shahramanyan, president of the Nagorno- Karabakh in exile, calls on France to put  pressure on Azerbaijan and make it release Armenian political prisoners. 

ArmInfo.The program for providing housing for internally displaced persons from Artsakh will be  presented to the government for discussion in April, Deputy Prime Minister and coordinator of the Humanitarian Center Tigran Khachatryan said on March 28 at a Cabinet meeting.

ArmInfo. Payments under the social assistance program in the amount of 40+10 thousand drams to pay for  housing and utilities for internally displaced persons from Artsakh will continue until the end of this year. The decision to extend the program was made at a Cabinet meeting on March 28.

ArmInfo.The member of the RA NA delegation to Inter- Parliamentary Union, the deputy of the  Armenia Faction Levon Kocaryan gave a speech at the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

ArmInfo.Following the Armenian Foreign Ministry, references to Artsakh disappeared from the  website of the country's president. This is signaled by ARF member, MP from the "Armenia"  opposition parliamentary faction Artur Khachatryan.
