Central Bank of Armenia responds to criticism of those against toughening of the CBA's new requirement to commercial banks' minimum total capital

The opponents having no sufficient information about the Armenian Central Bank's decision to increase the commercial banks' minimum total capital standard from the current 5 bln AMD to 30 bln AMD by 2017 have recently been voicing generalized statements and comments on it. The CB press service has told ArmInfo that in some cases the comments of the opponents, who intentionally manipulate the situation, ungroundedly whip up the citizens' concerns. The CB thinks that manipulation on the banks' names allegedly for their own safety is especially inadmissible.

Orange introduces more convenient conditions for prepaid customers

The press service of Orange Armenia has told ArmInfo that from now on customers of Orange One prepaid tariff plan can talk to all Orange subscribers, surf popular social networks and send SMS at a special rate of 1 AMD for twice longer periods. This special rate will now be applicable for 15 days, instead of the former 7, when recharging the account with 500 AMD, and for 31 days, instead of the former 15, in case of 1000 AMD recharge.

The inhabitants of Mets Airum rural community are demonstrating against the plans on building a new Akhtala ore mining plant tailing dump. Oleg Dulgaryan, a member of the community’s Council of Elders, reported about that during a press-conference on February 24. According to him, the new tailing dump is to be located next to Mets Airum and Chochkan rural communities and will occupy 40 hectares territory. Meanwhile, it is planned to transform the agricultural lands into industrial ones for the construction of the dump.
