The military-political cooperation between Armenia and Russia does not prevent Yerevan from buying weapons from the third countries, Koryun Nahapetyan, Head of the Armenian Standing Parliamentary Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, told reporters.
He said that Armenia is free to buy weapons from any country it wishes. When asked why in that case Armenia fails to buy arms from other countries, Nahapetyan replied that it is more beneficial to buy the arms from Russia, because the latter sells weapons to Yerevan at discount prices.
According to media reports, during a private meeting with the lawmakers, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan hinted that Russia prevents Armenia from buying weapons from the third countries.
