A group of culture workers have criticized the Yerevan authorities' plan to erect a monument to Soviet-time leader Anastas Mikoyan.
During a debate on Monday historian Araik Harutyunyan said that Mikoyan was privy to Stalin-time repressions. Artist Zaruhi Muradyan added that lots of Armenian culture workers fell victim to those repressions, so, it was inadmissible to erect a monument to a man who is responsible for their deaths.
The Apr 30 decision by Yerevan's Elders Council to erect a monument to Anastas Mikoyan received a mostly negative response from the public.
