The idea to involve Armenia in the Eurasian integration project must be made more attractive, Ambassador of Russia to Armenia Ivan Volynkin said on Wednesday while opening a workshop for journalists in Yerevan.
The workshop has been organized by the North-South Politological Center (Moscow) and is entitled "Eurasian Mass Media: Content Formation and Promotion Technologies."
Volynkin said that today lots of journalists in Armenia are skeptical about Armenia's role in the project, so, this idea must be made more attractive and convincing.
"The last years have become a period of global integration and the Eurasian integration project is one of the most dynamic components of this process. We hope that the Eurasian Union will shortly become an economic and foreign political basis for a new level of integration in the post-Soviet area and even one of the new global centers of power," Volynkin said.
In this light, he stressed the role of mass media in providing impartial and comprehensive information about the advantages of this project. "Without active media coverage we will not be able to overcome the information resistance shown by our global rivals," the Russian Ambassador said.
He said that in Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia the European integration project has failed to become an alternative to the EU's initiatives. "The key problem was that our mass media did little to create a positive image of this project," Volynkin said.
He welcomed Armenia's efforts to join the Customs Union and to take part in the work to form the Eurasian Economic Union.
