Armenia's former president, leader of oppositionist Armenian National Congress Levon Ter-Petrosyan made a statement related to seizure of the building of the Patrol- Guard Service Regiment in Erebuni district. 

The statement particularly reads: "Any state, nation or society despite internal differences and contradictions usually puts all aside when facing external threat or challenges and by combined efforts settles the tasks faced by the state". 

Levon Ter-Petrosyan noted that after the four day April war the Armenian nation has faced a difficult challenge of ensuing the security of Karabakh people and successful settlement of the conflict, which considering its importance puts aside all the other issues. The former president considers that on the current stage each word or action by the authorities, political parties, public organizations, analysts and journalists should be assessed exclusively in the light of its contribution or hindering this supreme idea. He expressed regret that a lot of people do not realize the importance of their words and actions and the priority of confronting external threats over the domestic problems", the leader of ANC stated. 

The ex president lists 3 concrete events happened during the recent three months. First, Ter-Petrosyan mentions "Samvel Babayan" provocative operation initiated by some irresponsible political strategists, which led to tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh. The second event is the forum held in Shushi by around twenty politicians, the usefulness of which is rather doubtful. "And the third event is the attack on the building of the Patrol-Guard Service Regiment, which has led to highly escalated situation in Yerevan these days", the politician states. 

At the same time Ter-Petrosyan notes that he does not want to give assessments to the ongoing events and impose his opinion on the society. "Let the citizens themselves assess whether these actions contribute to or create obstacles for ensuring security of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh and settlement of Karabakh conflict, how much they strengthen or weaken the positions of the Armenian diplomacy aimed at resolution of this task", the representative of the ANC said. 

"In order not to make an impression that I avoid from directly answering to the given question I state that today it is senseless to analyze the reasons that have led to the armed seizure of the state building", Ter- Petrosyan states. He thinks that after this highly dangerous situation is resolved analysis should be conducted and lessons should be learnt from these events. "On the current stage such an analysis may only escalate the situation", the former president said. 

According to Levon Ter-Petrosyan it is necessary to avoid new bloodshed and resolve the issue via peaceful negotiations, no matter how difficult they will be.
