"I am against Maidans and bloodshed," Gagik Tsarukyan, ex-leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), businessman, told reporters explaining why he left the political field.
In response to the remarks that he deceived the big army of his supporters by leaving the political field so unexpectedly and without explanations, Tsarukyan said: "Bad journalists are guilty in all that. Now, go and find more experienced politicians to build your country with. Go and meet the expectations of the people." Asked why he canceled the promised rally in February, Tsarukyan said: "What could I do, if they did not provide the square for the rally?"
Before leaving the political field, Tsarukyan was the leader of the second biggest political party Prosperous Armenia. He was embattled following his February speech wherein he slammed President Serzh Sargsyan for the situation in the country and called for snap presidential elections. The president, in turn, charged the relevant agencies to inspect Tsarukyan's business activity. Eventually, Tsarukyan was deprived of his seat in the parliament for failing to visit the parliament sittings. Tsarukyan was reluctant to leave the political field under pressure. The Finance Ministry promised to publish the results of the inspections at the businessman's companies in June.
