A number of environmental NGOs and residents of Gegharkunik, Ararat and Armavir regions have launched a campaign to save Lake Sevan.
According to Ecolur, they decided to officially urge the newly appointed Prime Minster of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan to stop the programs that are risky for the lake, particularly, the projects to increase annual water releases from Sevan from 170mln c m to 240mln c m and to create fish farms in the lake.
"The former project may result in a drop in Sevan's level, while the latter will soil the lake's water with artificial fishfood. So, unless the projects are stopped, we will start active actions," the campaigners say.
