Armenia's vote on Crimea at UN was not aimed against Ukraine. It reflected Armenia's stance on the principle of the people's right to self-determination, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Sergey Manasaryan told reporters, Thursday.
In response, Vice Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly Committee for Foreign Affairs Alexander Arzumanyan said by its voting, Armenia has actually isolated itself at the UN, remaining in the same row with 9 countries that have been isolated at that Organization for many years.
"It is a very dangerous trend that impedes the work of Armenia's permanent representative in the UN, considering that Armenia's partners in the Customs Union abstained from voting. I understand that the vote was not aimed against Ukraine, but it was not in favor of Armenia either," he said for conclusion.
To recall, the resolution against the secession referendum in Crimea, which was part of Ukraine but seceded from it and reunited with Russia, was passed by a 100-11 vote with 58 abstentions on 27 March. Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Zimbabwe, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria, and Sudan voted against the resolution. The document urges countries not to recognize Crimea's accession to Russia after the referendum held on March 16.
