No tangible progress has been observed in the Karabakh peace process since 2011, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan told journalists.
President Sargsyan said that the draft document on the conflict settlement has not been amended since the meeting of the presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan in Kazan. He pointed out that everybody knows Yerevan's stance - Azerbaijan should recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh people's right to decide their own fate independently. "We want this to happen in the peaceful way, not at the expense of human lives", he said. The President added that Baku's recent numerous sabotage attacks along the Line of Contact and on the Armenian-Azeri border pursued one goal - to show the international community that the war is not over and that the current status quo is unacceptable.
"The provocations and sabotage attacks are organized at the highest level, not by the order of junior or middle-ranking officers, and the President of Azerbaijan does not conceal it. They wanted to demonstrate both to us and to their people at a more serious level Azerbaijan has advantages. If they had gained success, they would have been able to promote their thesis that Azerbaijan's concession in the talks is that Baku does not resume the military actions. So, it is direct blackmail", said Sargsyan.
Sargsyan stressed that Baku's failure led to the fact that Azerbaijan's position at the latest meeting in Sochi was far from being good.
