"Those who strive for revolutions will be disappointed, as we will not hurry with structural reforms in political system, at the same time those who are used to status-quo will also be disappointed, as real reforms will be continued", Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated in his address to Armenian nation.
According to him, the reforms will be considered, and deliberate. "Both fundamental rights and freedoms of our citizens and democracy need protection. And first and foremost they must be protected from corruption, which leads to permissiveness, unfairness and un-freedom", the president stated, emphasizing that preventive mechanisms have already been developed for protection from these negative developments. The court should be at the center of these mechanisms, Sargsyan said. "We must establish contemporary, efficient court system, which will work in compliance with the new Constitution. But we also should dispose of distrust toward the law and the courts. It is necessary to create an environment for efficient work of courts, getting rid of the liars decisively", Serzh Sargsyan stated, emphasizing that protection of human rights and freedoms in the law enforcement system should be raised to a new level. According to him, in this field a certain progress has been reached, but the process should be finished.
"Respect of political culture, law compliance and right to property should become a habit. The courts are those structures that must free the country from corruption with public support. This is of course a difficult but achievable task", Serzh Sargsyan stated emphasizing the necessity for enlarging the authorities of Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials.
Serzh Sargsyan also drew attention to multi-layer and changing challenges in the South Caucasus region. "We, I mean Armenia, Artsakh and Diaspora, can not avoid these challenges. But we know based on our own experience that any challenge is also an opportunity to revaluate our resources, which are not fully discovered and realized yet".
