The withdrawal of the Armenian-Turkish protocols was a logical follow-up on the Armenian President's UN GA speech, opposition MP, former Armenian FM Alexander Arzumanyan told journalists on Tuesday.
"Armenia is trying to do its best to normalize its relations with the Turks but they continue to be hostile: their border with Armenia is still closed and they are going to celebrate the Gallipoli victory on the same day we are planning to commemorate the 100th year of the Armenian Genocide. This is all but a friendly step," Arzumanyan said.
While speaking at the UN GA in Sept 2014, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said: "The Armenian-Turkish protocols have been pending ratification for several years already, with Turkey openly saying that it will ratify these documents only when Nagorno-Karabakh is given to Azerbaijan. When ordinary people in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh hear this, they say, 'Go to hell with your ratification.'"
