Armenian public trust neither mass media nor political parties, said Boris Navasardyan, Head of the Yerevan Press Club, introducing the results of the survey 'Media Industry in Armenia,' Monday.
"The first position in the people's trust list belongs to army. Then go the Armenian Apostolic Church, public organizations, parliament, and judicial system. Mass media and political parties are in the bottom of the list," the expert said. He explained this with a widespread opinion that mass media depend on political parties. "However, only few polled citizens could name anyone who owes a media resource," Navasardyan said.
He said that 79% of the polled citizens follow news on television, at first, and only then online, on radio and in newspaper. Meanwhile, experts forecast 'death' of the printed mass media and increase of online media, he said. According to Navasardyan, top three positions in the rating of the most popular programs on television are news, serials, and music shows. Meanwhile, he said, the polled citizens do not own that they watch serials.
The survey was conducted within 4 years in three stages: social polls, mass media monitoring and polls among experts. The program is implemented by the Yerevan Press Club, Internews, Center of Media Initiatives, and Eurasia Foundation.
