The armed forces must keep political neutrality, Defense Minister of Armenia said in response to the statement by Tigran Mazmanyan, a former contract officer, who claims that his contract was terminated due to his political affiliation.
"Tigran Mazmanyan is engaged in politics, while the armed forces must keep political neutrality. He was notified about it and left army voluntarily. I don't think Mazmanyan has any grounds to blame the military command of the country," the minister told reporters on February 9.
In response to the remarks of journalists that the minister is involved in the political processes and even advocated for the constitutional amendments, Ohanyan said: "I am a representative of a political team and as part of the agitation campaign I presented the current security system and how it will change after the Constitutional reform. However, I did not propagate anything personally," the minister said.
Earlier, Tigran Mazmanyan posted on Facebook that Minister Seyran Ohanyan personally terminated his contract due to his political views.
