The former prime minister of Armenia, lawmaker Hrant Bagratyan thinks that the dismissal of the high-ranking officials of the Armenian Defense Ministry is an 'insufficient measure'.
Bagratyan said at a press conference on April 29 that the situation that arose following the escalation in Karabakh conflict zone is the consequence of wrong policy and governance. So, the need for more significant dismissals has arisen. He said that in the war-time he does not want to give specific names, however, he said, it is necessary to make personnel reshuffle.
The ex-prime minister recalled that the main success of the Armenian armed forces during the previous war fell on the years of his premiership. The then government managed to efficiently settle the communication problem, Armenia was able to independently create an air defense system of its own, as well as 6 weapon production facilities. He added, however, that "he does not try to ascribe all the success to his own self".
When speaking of the initial success of the adversary in the 4-day war, Bagratyan noted that this became possible only because Armenian servicemen lack night vision devices.
He added that the problem of night vision devices can be settled - it is a matter of a few million dollars. The former prime minister recalled that Armenia once had an "Orbit" plant - the erstwhile monopolist in production of night vision devices. Bagratyan regretted to say that after his premiership, the fundamentals of the Military Industrial Complex have been purposefully destroyed instead of being developed.
