"Artsakh war veteran Volodya Avetisyan is determined to turn to the European Court of Human Rights", said Ara Zakaryan, Avetisyan's attorney on February 27.
He mentioned that the legal proceedings might take several years. However, the attorney is certain that the ECHR will record the Armenian jurisdiction violation of the veteran's rights.
On July 17 the Court of General Jurisdiction of First Instance of Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun Administrative Districts sentenced Artsakh war veteran, retired colonel Volodya
Avetisyan to 6 years of imprisonment. The attorney then tried to dispute the decision at the Appeal Court, but without any success. Avetisyan said more than once that he would not admit his guilt, he claimed that the authorities were just trying to punish him for the protest demonstrations he had organized a year before.
It is to be reminded that Avetisyan was detained on September 19. on September 20 the Ministry of Defence RA issued a statement accor5ding to which Avetisyan had taken 2000 USD promising to excuse some Zakaryan's grandson from the army duty. However, his fellow soldiers are sure that case has been forged and is connected with the veteran's public activity. Before the events took place the colonel had held a sitting picket on Republic Square where he was demanding the improvement the social condition of Artsakh war soldier.
