If the West makes Europe refuse from Russia's gas supplied via Ukraine, Russia will block the communications in the Caucasus, Ashot Manucharyan, a member of the Karabakh Committee, Armenian first president's adviser for national security, told reporters on 13 June.
According to him, the Karabakh conflict is a good opportunity for that. "Russia will deploy troops under pretext of a peacekeeping mission and will block the communications in the Caucasus region. And Nakhijevan is the best place for such actions," the expert said. According to him, this is one of the two possible scenarios of confrontation between Russia and the West.
The second scenario, as he thinks, is an attempt to 'fool' Russia. "The first time it happened when Turkey pretended supporting Russia's stance in the Syrian conflict for a long time before it showed its real intentions. Now, Azerbaijan tries to do the same criticizing at the highest level the statements of European top officials and structures to imitate alleged bad relations of with the West and Europe," Manucharyan said. He is sure that a conflict in Nakhijevan will lead to chaos in Armenia and in the entire region. Manucharyan thinks that in such situation Serzh Sargsyan must immediately step down as president, at least because he does not enjoy the public confidence and his regime just harms the Armenian people. In addition, Manucharyan said, the Government of Armenia must resign as well before it finally ruins the country.
"There are hundreds of competent persons in our country who are able to lead the country out of the chaos is has occurred in," Manucharyan said.
