The key to the Karabakh conflict settlement is in the hands of Yerevan, Stepanakert and Baku, not in Washington or Moscow, the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan says in an interview with DW.
He says that the mediators are not to blame for the constant ceasefire violations. The responsibility lies on the parties to the conflict or the party, which is not interested in maintenance of the status quo.
When speaking of the West-Russia discrepancies on the Syrian crisis and their possible impact on the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs' activities, Kocharyan says that the enthusiasm of interaction may diminish, but Russia and the West keep cooperating on a number of other directions. Kocharyan hopes that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement is one of such directions.
As regards the meetings of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders, Kocharyan stresses the need to continue these meetings. He regrets to say that the tension in the conflict zone does not subside amid the meetings of the presidents. He also expresses confidence that if the Armenian authorities' statements about retaliatory measures against Azerbaijan remain just statements, Baku will shoot even more
