U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern made a video address in the Armenian language, Wednesday.
In his address, the diplomat urges the parties to the Karabakh conflict to stop violence and find a peaceful resolution of the conflict through negotiations. The ambassador expressed his condolences to the families of the killed soldiers and civilians on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and on the Line of Contact of the Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces, and cited James Warlick, OSCE Mg Co-Chair of USA, who said in an interview with VoA that the Karabakh conflict has been unfrozen.
Ambassador Heffern called on the conflicting parties to take effective steps to defuse tensions in the conflict zone and observe the ceasefire. "Strident rhetoric and threats do not help. There is no military solution to the conflict," the ambassador said and urged the parties for serious negotiations. Heffern said further violence will even more complicate the problem. "The best way to commemorate the victims of the last incidents in the Karabakh conflict zone is to stop clashes immediately," the diplomat said.
