There are factors making the authorities act contrary to Armenia's interests, Manvel Sargsyan, Director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies, said during the debates on May 19.
"This circumstance causes concerns, especially in the light of the April events. On the very first day of the Azerbaijani aggression in April, we lost 75 servicemen. All of them died when defending the first line of defense of Artsakh. A question arises: if the 800 hectares lying behind that line are of almost no significance to Armenia and Artsakh, why did our guys held out to the last, why weren't the troops pulled back at once?" the analyst said.
After all this, the Karabakh detachments, which launched counteroffensive and were retrieving the positions, unexpectedly received an order to stop and to leave the notorious 800 hectares in the adversary's hands, Sargsyan said.
The analyst wonders who and why gave that order, especially given that due to the arrangements in Vienna Baku reinforced what it seized. Sargsyan qualifies these events as a rather dangerous precedent, for which the party that makes decisions on behalf of Armenia and Artsakh should be held accountable.
