Germany is a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, and we closely follow developments in the Karabakh conflict zone, Ambassador of Germany to Armenia, Reiner Morell, told journalists today.
"Germany advocates a peaceful settlement of the issue. The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has stressed that we stand ready to help wherever there is a need,"- he said.
He also emphasized that being a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, Germany's position is clear on the Karabakh issue, and the country is not guided by double standards.
However, he declined to answer, which of the parties to the Karabakh conflict shows aggression when breaking the ceasefire regime. He said that the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has already replied to all the questions regarding the role of Germany in settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
To note, yesterday Merkel said: "Germany wants to help to be of help to the settlement of that conflict. We also talked about the possibility of the European Union taking another initiative. I believe Azerbaijan will talk to the European Commission about that. We are a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is chaired by France, Russia and the United States of America, and we support a resolution through negotiations. We see that Aliyev has met with his Armenian counterpart several times and has expressed willingness for negotiations. This conflict can only be solved peacefully. We are concerned about the ceasefire violations and will obviously keep them in our focus. I must take precaution and say that Russian plays a decisive role. Perhaps Russia and Armenia think the same way. So, you can come to the conclusion that we're not applying different standards."
