Armenia imported 9,2 million liters of vodka versus 8.4 million liters in 2013 overwhelmingly from Russia. This is a record-breaking indicator, says Avag Haroutiunyan, Head of the Union of Armenian Winemakers.
Talking to reporters on February 27, Haroutiunyan said Armenian have been consuming more vodka over the last two years "out of bare necessities of life." The winemaker explains the growing consumption of vodka with the deteriorating living conditions in the country. Local production has dropped, amid growing consumption of imported vodka. By data of the Customs Service of Armenia, vodka and liqueur production in Armenia fell 4.3% in 2014 to 9,0506.1 thousand liters.
Last year, nearly 700,000 liters of ethylic alcohol were imported versus nearly 600,000 liters in the previous year.
