To avoid repletion of Genocide, the world community must support Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Frank Engel, a Member of the European Parliament from Luxembourg, said at the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide in Yerevan, on April 23.
"I am calling for recognition of Artsakh's independence, as I can clearly see the difference between Stepanakert and Baku," Engel said explaining that in Stepanakert someone who criticizes the government may appear in the parliament, while in Baku nothing of the kind is possible. In Baku one can appear in quite different place for criticizing the government, he said.
The European parliamentarian said that Azerbaijan is a country that elevates Ramil Safarov (a brutal axe murdered) to the level of national hero. "It is no secret who unleashed aggression in Karabakh earlier this month," Engel said adding that it was the side that is interested in aggression, the side that is waging trigger happy policy, the side that unleashed war more than 20 years ago and lost territories.
The April incidents showed that some people living on the Caspian Sea shore dream of a new genocide in Nagorno Karabakh. To prevent this, the world community should recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh.
"They are trying to make their dream true, while we must not give then a chance to do it," Frank Engel said.
