The reasons why the Armenian soldier crossed the border into Azerbaijan must be sought in his family, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan told reporters, Wednesday.
The contract serviceman of the NKR Defense Army, Andranik Grigoryan (1991) crossed the border into Azerbaijan on March 22, at about 1.50pm, leaving his arms and ammunition on the combat position. Investigation is underway.
The minister said the interrogation of Grigoryan's family revealed that the soldier had tense relations with the family.
The minister disclaims any rumors about military hazing by the command. "He was a contract serviceman in a small military unit where there is no military hazing. So, this version must be ruled out," Ohanyan said. As for the video disseminated by Azerbaijan in which the Armenian serviceman is crossing the Line of Contact holding a white flag, Ohanyan said it was montage. The minister said Grigoryan's fellow soldiers saw him running towards the Azerbaijani positions, but failed to stop him.
The minister disclaimed everything Grigoryan says in the video shared by Azerbaijan. Ohanyan is sure the solider said everything under pressure and after possible torture.
