Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign
Affairs has commented on the resolution adopted by the Los Angeles City Council
recognizing Nagorno Karabakh as an independent state, APA reports. Foreign
Ministry Spokesman Elman Abdullayev said the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in
Los Angeles will hand a letter of protest to the City Council over the
issue.
"It is absurd. Because, the position of the U.S
is clear. The U.S. doesn't recognize
the republic named "Nagorno Karabakh" and supports the territorial
integrity of Azerbaijan. Guided by this, member of the Highland City Council
Jodi Scott strongly condemned it and underlined the importance of taking steps
in accordance with the official position of the U.S." Abdullayev
said. He said that the Armenian lobby
"is using primitive methods and making the Los Angeles City Council adopt
such a resolution."
Los Angeles City Council
unanimously recognized the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent and
sovereign state. The resolution,
submitted and adopted on 10 September 2013, notes that the Republic of
Nagorno-Karabakh contributes to the stability in the region of Caucasus
conducting free and fair elections. The
resolution was officially submitted to the NKR resident representative to
Washington last week. At the same time an appeal is made to the international
community to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh Republic as a free, independent and
sovereign state. The author of the
resolution is Los Angeles Council member of Armenian nationality Paul
Grigorian.
