Naira Zohrabyan, the new leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), has officially declared the PAP as opposition. She announced this at the PAP congress, during which the ex-leader of PAP Gagik Tsarukyan announced his decision to step down as the PAP chairman, to renounce his deputy mandate and to leave politics.
Zohrabyan said that the latest developments have disappointed part of the PAP supporters. "On behalf of the Party, I beg the pardon of our compatriots, whose hopes have not been justified. Time is needed to analyze the situation. The Party experiences hard times, but to be strong and viable, the Party should overcome the difficulties and continue its political path", said Zohrabyan.
The PAP will keep protecting the interests of all public strata. So will the PAP parliamentary group. Following the domestic political crisis, the problems of the state and the people have not been resolved, and the PAP's role is to be with the people.
Zohrabyan confessed that it is not easy to assume such a serious responsibility and that she soberly assesses all difficulties and problems. But the problems can be resolved if efforts are joined. "Today I declare the Prosperous Armenia Party as opposition. I will do the same in Parliament in accordance with the law. We will have a period of serious discussions and analysis to work out a clear tactics. I am ready to work, I advocate teamwork. If I see that my efforts give no results, I will worthily step down as the PAP leader", she said.
