As long as Azerbaijan continues violating the ceasefire and there is intensive shelling, no negotiations are possible, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said after the meeting the Executive Body of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Thursday.
"At the meeting of the RPA Executive Body, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan introduced the situation on the Line of Contact of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani troops. He set forth three important conditions for resumption of the negotiations on Karabakh. In particular, these are confidence-building mechanisms, directly addressed statements, and guarantees that Azerbaijan will not unleash a new aggression and terrorist acts against the Karabakh people," Sharmazanov said.
He is sure that it is early to speak of resuming the negotiations as long as military actions continue and Azerbaijan keeps violating the ceasefire agreements of 1994-1995 and the verbal arrangements of ceasefire made on April 5 in Moscow.
Sharmazanov said Armenia remains the guarantor of the Nagorno-Karabakh people's security. The conflict must be settled taking into account the Artsakh people's right to self-determination.
"No one can resolve the conflict, unless Stepanakert is involved in the peace process. The people of Karabakh struggle for independence and Armenia will be supporting that fair demand, whether Turkey and Azerbaijan want it or not," the vice speaker said.
