Karabakh should have its representative to PACE, secretary of the Orinats Yerkir parliamentary faction, Mher Shakhgeldyan, told journalists today.
He said that similar precedents are already available - North Cyprus and Palestine have their representatives to this structure. "If Karabakh has its representative to PACE, its vote will be voiced not via an intermediary but directly by Stepanakert", - he said and added that this will give an opportunity to avoid adoption of the anti-Armenian resolutions by PACE.
In this context, the politician recalled the PACE decision to make a report entitled "Escalation of tensions in Nagornyy Karabakh and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan". He said that the given resolution is an omission of the Armenian delegation to PACE. "However, the delegation do not have enough forces to fight the "oil dollar" policy of Baku. We need consolidation and a strategy drawn out in details, within the frames of which the government and parliament, the lobbyist and public organizations will cooperate", - the politician said.
He also added that with a help of such reports and anti-Armenian resolutions, Baku sets PACE and OSCE against each other, as it discredits the OSCE Minsk Group, the negotiating process for peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and is trying to transfer it to the force level. "And parliamentarians voting in PACE should understand that", - he concluded.
To recall, A report on "Escalation of tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan" will be prepared in PACE. Members of the Armenian delegation to PACE expressed protest against the title of the report, calling that a provocation, as the negotiations on Karabakh have been still conducted within the frames of the OSCE Minsk Group.
