ArmInfo. Since August of this year, the age limit for the state program for infertility treatment in Armenia will be revised. RA Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan stated on April 11, answering questions from parliamentarians in the National Assembly.
In particular, she said that in the case of primary infertility, the program will henceforth be valid for women up to 40 years of age, while according to current regulations, the age limit for treatment and in vitro fertilization (IVF) was set at 36 years. In addition, in the case of secondary infertility, as Avanesyan noted, beneficiaries of the state program can be not only women from border regions, but also from throughout the Republic.
"This is a very important step forward," the minister emphasized. At the same time, she noted that the Ministry of Health is moving forward under this program in accordance with the results of monitoring, which is carried out every six months, both in terms of the financial part and the number of pregnancies and children born under the program.
The launch of a program for infertility treatment through free or preferential access to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) was announced in August 2019 at a government meeting. According to the RA Statistical Committee, 5,477 children were born in Armenia for January-February 2024, which is 7.3% lower than a year ago. The birth rate per 1,000 inhabitants during the reporting period was 11.3 ppm, compared to 12.5 ppm a year earlier.
It should be noted that according to the UN Population Fund, infertility in Armenia (among families of reproductive age) is 16.8% at a critical level of 15%.
