ArmInfo. The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS RA) hosted the event entitled "Golden  Fund of the French Printed Heritage" dedicated to the International Day of Francophonie.

According to the press service of the National Academy of Sciences,  during the event, the public was presented with French-language books  stored in the Golden Fund of the Fundamental Scientific Library of  the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, which  were printed in the 17th-18th centuries in various European  countries.

Opening the event, Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences of  the Republic of Armenia, academician Ashot Saghyan recalled that  Armenia has become a full member of the Francophonie since 2012. He  emphasized that the main goal of the Organization is the  dissemination of the French language and cultural activities for the  benefit of peace, democracy and human rights. "The National Academy  of Sciences of Armenia is the most important scientific center of our  state, which cooperates with a number of French-speaking countries,  taking part in various events and meetings, as a result of which  science and scientists only benefit. As a result of interaction,  Armenian researchers gain access to scientific innovations of  French-speaking countries, and Armenian scientists have the  opportunity to present their achievements at important platforms,"  Saghyan emphasized. He expressed hope that today's meeting will also  serve as the basis for new cooperation, which is more than necessary  at the present time, given the difficult geopolitical situation.

In his welcoming speech, Chairman of the Group of Ambassadors of  Francophone Countries in Armenia, Ambassador of Switzerland to  Armenia Lukas Rosenkranz noted that Francophonie is often considered  in terms of cultural and other values, without taking into account  that the scientific factor also plays an important role. "Armenia is  making great progress in the field of science. And Francophonie will  contribute to the development of science in the country," the  diplomat assured.

According to the source, during the event, Musicologist-medievalist,  PhD in Arts, researcher at the Institute of Arts of the RA NAS ,  researcher at the Komitas Museum-Institute Gayane Amiraghyan  presented a report on the topic "Vardapet Komitas and French  culture".  On March 9, the Francophonie Days celebrations started in  Armenia, which will last until the end of April.

Within the framework of these Days, the National Chamber Orchestra of  Armenia, together with the French Embassy/French Institute of  Armenia, will present three concert programs (March 9, March 28 and  April 27).

In addition, from March 12 to April 13, French movies will be  screened as part of the film club project. The films will be screened  at the National Library of Armenia. In the repertoire: Breathless  (1960) (French: A bout de souffle, lit. 'Out of Breath')  Dir.  Jean-Luc Godard / Armenian and English subtitles; The 400 Blows  (French: Les quatre cents coups) (1959), Dir.  Fran ois Truffaut /  Armenian and English subtitles; Paris Belongs to Us (1961), Dir.  Jacques Rivette/ Armenian and English subtitles; Handsome Serge (Le  Beau Serge) (1958), Dir. Claude Chabrol  / Armenian and English  subtitles.

Moreover, the 7th French-language Film Festival was held at the  Moscow cinema on March 16-24, which was organized by the French  Embassy/French Institute of Armenia in partnership with the embassies  of Switzerland, Belgium and Canada.

The festive events are organized by the French Embassy and the French  Institute of Armenia in partnership with the embassies of other  member and observer countries of the International Organization of La  Francophonie, as well as cultural and educational institutions of  Armenia.
