Levon Ter-Petrosyan: Armenia's integration in the Customs Union is conditioned by aspiration of the Armenian authorities to gain Russia's supporting of their "legitimateness"

The Armenian authorities which were driving towards the European integration for the last four years, have suddenly become supporters of the Eurasian integration. They started making steps towards joining the Customs Union as fast as they were doing earlier when intending to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union, the first president of Armenia, the leader of the Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, in an article at

He explained this by the fact that earlier the authorities of Armenia used to link recognition of their legitimateness with the West. But at present, they link it only with Russia. "But the worst of it is that Armenia is joining the Customs Union not like a fully-fledged partner, but as a servant debared from voting",- Ter-Petrosyan said. He also added that on the way of integration in the Customs Union, President Serzh Sargsyan is ready to make any compromise. In particular, the humiliating gas deal between Armenia and Russia, as a result of which, ArmRusgasprom was fully handed over to the Russian party.

As another example of Armenia's humiliation, Ter-Petrosyan said about President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev's statement at the Astana summit, that Armenia should join the Customs Union without Nagornyy Karabakh. "This statement caught Sargsyan flatfooted, and he could not reply. However, he should be ready to such a statement, as it was earlier voiced by Nazarbayev and President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko  at the CU summit in Minsk", - he said. He also added that Sargsyan made a fool of himself, when he replied to Nazarbayev in Tsakhadzor after returning from Astana, but could not do that face to face. "Until the criminal regime is ruling in Armenia, our country will be humiliated at the world arena", - Ter-Petrosyan concluded.
