"We fight for freedom of not only the Kurdish people, but also the
Armenian and other peoples and religions," claims Abdullah Ocalan, the
jailed Kurdish leader. Ocalan is
currently serving life sentence on Imrali Island. His appeal was transferred through the Justice Ministry of
Turkey, local media outlets said.
In his two-page appeal Ocalan touches also upon the
Armenian Genocide issue recalling that after "vicious genocide"
Armenians proved strong enough to hold out through severe fight and genuine
efforts, "which is a miracle".
According to the Kurdish leader, they have always
respected the Armenian people. "The 'poison' of the nationalist state and
the government has turned these lands into cemetery of peoples and cultures. We
fought for freedom of not only Kurds but also other peoples living here. Despite
difficulties, our fight for peace will not affect any other nation,"
Ocalan says in the appeal.
