On June 23, at the Parliament Assembly of the Council of Europe, as a chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the CE, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov answered the questions regarding "frozen conflicts", as well as the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, APA reports.
Mammadyarov said that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict means that Azerbaijan has lost its territories. "Of course, there were many discussions on settlement of this conflict. We think that the Committee of Ministers of the CE can contribute to ensuring the peace in the region. I can say as an Azerbaijani Foreign Minister directly attending the negotiations with the Armenian side that a plan on settlement of this conflict already exists. I speak about international legal norms and the UN SC resolutions. The UN is a very reliable organization and its decisions should be respected. That's, ground decisions regarding the Nagorno Karabakh conflict already exist", said Mammadyarov.
"These decisions, which were adopted in 1993, prove that the demands against Armenia are still in force. That is, it's demanded Armenia to withdraw from Azerbaijan's territories. I think, these resolutions should be fulfilled. If this method is used in settlement of the conflict, it will be useful for the whole region. As it happens earlier, it will be better for people living there. We hope that the Council of Europe will not change its principal position on the territorial integrity of the countries. This position will be the most useful position in accordance with the international legal norms", he said.
