Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Jane Nuland discussed issues of Armenian-US cooperation.
The press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry has told ArmInfo that Nalbandian stressed the significance of the bilateral relations in all fields and expressed hope that the cooperation will be promoted. For her part, Nuland said that the United States gives high priority to relationship with Armenia and is ready to speed up efforts towards promotion of the partnership. Nalbandian pointed out that the Armenian- US cooperation covers regional and international security, peacekeeping, non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons. In this light, Nuland expressed her gratitude for Armenia's active participation in international peacekeeping operations.
She also pointed out Armenia's progress in democracy and economic reforms. The sides stressed the need to attract investments and elaborate a framework agreement on investment and trade between the US and Armenia. They also emphasized the significance of facilitation of the visa regime between the US and Armenia. The meeting also covered international issues, particularly, the Ukrainian and the Middle East crises. As regards the Karabakh problem, Nalbandian and Nuland stressed the need to resolve the conflict in line with international standards of non-use of force, peoples' right to self-determination and territorial integrity. Nalbandian also asked her to hand over an invitation to the US Secretary of State o visit Armenia.
