Moscow's Tverskoy Court is considering the suit filed by Azeri lawyers Sadik and Elmira Mamedovs against the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhininovsky.
According to Izvestia, the lawyers claim that Zhirinovsky has harmed the honor and dignity of the Azeri nation. They have also sued the State Duma for allowing discrediting words against the Azeris.
To remind, during a recent State Duma meeting Zhirinovsky said, "What is Azerbaijan? In Russian the word 'Azer' or 'Hazar Denezi' means the Caspian Sea, while the word 'baca' or 'baycan' means a land. So, Azerbaijanis means people living on the shore of the Caspian Sea, in other words Caspians. Do you mean there can be such a nationality – the Caspians? This is just people living there. We say 'Povolzhye' (edit. Volga region) but there we have the Mari, the Tatars, the Bashkirs...
The same is for Vologodchina, Pskovschina (edit. Vologda and Pskov regions)..." Zhirinovsky said.
Mamedovs demand that Zhirinovsky officially retract on his words during one of the next State Duma meetings and pay a moral compensation of 100,000,000 RUR.
