Rumors about the sale of Electric Networks of Armenia have always been circulating, Nikolay Gorelov, Spokesman for Inter RAO, has told ArmInfo when commenting on the Armenian media reports about Samvel Karapetyan's intention to buy "Electric Networks of Armenia" CJSC. To note, the owner of Tashir Group, Samvel Karapetyan is a large Russian businessman of Armenian origin.
Gorelov said that if any changes occur in the matter, they will be made public.
When asked whether the information about Chairman of Inter RAO UES OJSC Board Boris Kovalchuk's visit to Armenia is true, Gorelov said that he does not comment on Kovalchuk's trips.
Earlier on Thursday, ArmInfo's sources in Moscow reported that Kovalchuk will visit Yerevan and have a meeting with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to discuss restructuring of the debts of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC to set the company for sale.
To note, the foreign debt of ENA CJSC is $200 million, the internal debt being 16 billion drams.
ENA CJSC is 100% subsidiary of Inter RAO UES OJSC with an exclusive license for transmission and distribution of electric power in the territory of Armenia. The company serves 967,000 consumers.
