After clashes between Police and participants of oppositionist protest the situation was relatively calm in the morning.
However, Police patrols several districts of Yerevan, including the Liberty Square, territory near the seized Police Patrol Service Regiment, Sari Tagh district, as well as the state buildings. To note, as a result of clashes overnight 60 people were hospitalized, the condition of some of them is critical. Hundreds of people were detained. One of the activists David Sanasaryan, whom unknown people in hospital beat, was detained instead of being taken to reanimation. Armenia's Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan arrived at Sari Tagh district for monitoring the situation on the scene.
To note, after the march of the activists from the Liberty Square to Sari Tagh district the policemen used impact munitions to disperse the protesters. Stones were thrown. Dozens of people suffered. Houses and a gas pipeline were caught to fire as a result of using impact munitions. It is noteworthy that this time plain-clothed people supervised by the Police persecuted even journalists. A lot of journalists suffered from impact munitions, others were beaten, and their equipment was broken. Even Head of Heritage Party Faction Zaruhi Postanjyan was persecuted. A large group of people broke the cordon og the police at the Khorenatsi Street and advanced towards Sari Tagh district. However, police detained them later. One policeman was wounded as a result of shooting from the seized Police Patrol Service Regiment building.
Police announced that people cannot further remain in that part of Sari Tagh district as the protest is illegal; moreover their security is under threat as shots from the territory of the seized building may reach them.
According to the spread information the unknown plain-clothed men cooperating with Police and beating journalists are security guards of MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, Mher Sedrakyan, who comes from the Sari Tagh district and has certain influence there.
Armenia's Ombudsman made a statement, in which he urged Armenian Police to immediately provide clarification related to use of violence against representatives of mass media. According to Ombudsman's statement alarms were received by the Ombudsman's Office that violence was used against representatives of mass made, law enforces created obstacles in work of journalists. The statement reads that these actions were conducted by plain-clothed officers. In this light the Ombudsman stated: " We have registered all the alarms, based on which criminal persecution should be initiated immediately, all the responsible should be detected". The Ombudsman's Office also urges the citizens, who have any video materials about the facts of display of violence against journalists of 1in.am, azatutyun.am, armlur.am, a1plus.am, Armenie TV company, to present them as soon as possible. The Ombudsman guarantees security of these persons. He also informed about the facts of citizens' detention and violence against them. "Work is underway related to this issue", the statement of the Ombudsman reads.
Police in turn promised to investigate the cases of violence against journalists.
