Through a broad consolidation with the political forces, the Armenian authorities are trying to find the best option of draft constitutional reforms, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan told journalists on September 1.
"The political forces have submitted a lot of proposals, which will be discussed with the relevant commission of the Parliament and we will try to find the best possible option of reforms," said the Prime Minister.
Abrahamyan does not rule out that he will remain the prime minister following the reforms. "It is for the public to decide. Why not if I get a parliamentary majority? The most important thing is to settle the problems faced by the country," he said. In addition, the prime minister expects to receive a high post following the constitutional reforms.
To recall, on August 20, the Commission for Constitutional Reforms approved the draft constitutional reforms and the rationale, and then submitted them to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. On August 21, Serzh Sargsyan submitted the draft reforms for consideration of the Parliament. The President held consultations with the representatives of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, Pan-Armenian National Movement, Free Democrats Party, Christian Democratic Union, and other forces. The Armenian National Congress and the Heritage Party rejected the invitation to attend the consultations.
