The attacks of the Islamist fighters on the Armenian- populated town of Kessab are a planned action of Turkey and the continuation of its genocidal policy against Armenians, the Preparliament civic initiative says in a statement. The authors of the statement say that the attack on Kessab should not be considered as an ordinary episode of the conflict in Syria, because the town is of strategic importance.
"Kessab was the last patch of historical Cilicia. It was the historical motherland of Cilician Armenians. The deportation of the last remains of Armenians from those territories demonstrates once again that the genocide is still going on", says the statement.
The Preparliament also condemns the Armenian authorities' inactivity and qualifies it as a crime. According to the Preparliament, the Armenian Government does not want to assume the responsibility for the situation in Kessab. "It is a crime that the Armenian authorities are not yet prepared for such situations. Armenia must demand its participation in the talks and raise the problem of Kessab at the UN", the statement says.
