Residents of Yerevan protest against alienation of their flats in businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan's favor

  • Friday, June 27, 21:56

The residents of 23 and 25, Teryan St. and 37, Lalayants St. in Yerevan have held another protest action against alienation of their flats in businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan's favor.

To recall, according to the Government's decision, the right to possession of the specified buildings in Teryan and Lalayants Streets has been provided to Local Developers owned by Samvel Mayrapetyan. The residents of these buildings do not know yet what Mayrapetyan is going to do with their flats.

The residents say that they have appealed to all the courts and instances against that decision, but all their steps have proved in vain. According to them, the authorities make them sell their flats to Mayrapetyan for a trifling sum, and Mayrapetyan promises to allocate them housing in a "high-class", which is being built nearby. However, the residents believe that Mayrapetyan is going to deceive them. "We are even ready to protect our houses with weapons if needed", they say.

To note, according to numerous media reports, Samvel Mayrapetyan is a business partner of the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and Vice Premier of Armenia Armen Gevorgyan.
