By changing of the government Serzh Sargsyan's strategy will not change, and by all means he will get a goal of preserving his power either by appointment of a successor or, as a result of constitutional reforms, getting the position of a prime minister with wide powers, the first president of Armenia, the leader of the Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, said in an interview with iLur.am. On the way towards reaching this goal, President Sargsyan may gain time by means of appointing the prime minister a candidate more or less acceptable for everybody, he said and added that in this way he will mellow public tension.
'One should take into consideration the fact that in the sphere of political back-door intrigues Serzh Sargsyan is a foreman which has no equal. He will be able to reach his goal if the opposition forces do not display foresight and soberly evaluate their capabilities. The opposition have not yet fully understood that the premier's resignation is a result of the planned full-time rallies. This is half-victory, and not to develop this victory means to offer a great gift to Serzh Sargsyan", - he said.
Ter-Petrosyan thinks that the opposition should not take part in Sargsyan's games and join the government being formed by him, even if Sargsyan offers the position of the prime minister to any member of the opposition. He thinks that if the opposition is within the government, that will be a suicide for the opposition, as for several months Sargsyan may discredit that government and blame prime minister for that. "The opposition should either raise a problem of Serzh Sargsyan's resignation during the full-time rallies, or under the pressure of rallies to fail in the parliament adoption of the government programme, and to force Sargsyan dissolve parliament and hold extraordinary parliamentary election.
Asked if the power may uses force against the participants in the rallies, Ter-Petrosyan replied that only a mad man can do that, but Serzh Sargsyan is not such. He also added that 6 years ago Sargsyan fully enjoyed the foreign forces' support, whereas now he has turned into "an international alien". "To be short, Serzh Sargsyan no longer has resources to resist the opposition. By sacrificing the prime minister, he proved his weakness and confessed his defeat. Now he only has to gratefully take our guarantees of his inviolability and humbly resign", Ter-Petrosyan said.
