The Azerbaijani embassy in the US has been instructed to investigate the role of Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of the US State for European and Eurasian Affairs, concerning the resolution on Nagorno- Karabakh which has not been passed in PACE, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said on Wednesday, APA reports. "Our diplomatic mission is investigating the matter. A statement will be made once the result is known," Mammadyarov noted.
To note, in one of his interviews US Congressman Adam Schiff stated that Robert Walter's resolution in PACE was rejected also due to his and Victoria Nuland's efforts. At the same time the co chairs of OSCE Minsk Group also stated that the adoption of this resolution is not reasonable. Earlier Armenian MPs had visited European countries with a special diplomatic mission to explain to their colleagues that adoption of Walter's resolution is unwanted. Armenian Foreign Ministry and Diaspora also made efforts in this issue.
To note, on January 26, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted the document based on the report "The inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water" by Milica Markovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina). At the same time, PACE voted not to adopt a resolution on "Escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and the other occupied territories of Azerbaijan" based on a report by British former PACE member Robert Walter.
