Andranik Arzumanyan has been appointed as Director of the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet after Alexander Spendiarian.
The press service of Armenia's Culture Ministry reports that nine people applied for the post. Only two of them qualified for the second round. Andranik Arzumanyan and Gagik Manasyan.
The former director Kamo Hovhannisyan was dismissed following the staff's protest against new pension scheme. On Feb 10 the actors refused to perform Anush. In a following meeting Deputy Culture Minister Artur Poghosyan told them that on Jan 1 their wages were raised by 20% but it turned out that they did not receive the raise in January. Hovhannisyan was forced to resign but now he is advisor of the Culture Minister.
