European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has asked the Azerbaijani government to present explanations till September 26 related to the official position of Azerbaijan on handover of Petrosyan' s body and its delay, a member of the Working Group representing Karen Petrosyan's family. The lawyer at the Public Organization against Legal Outrage Karine Gevorgyan told RFE/RL Armenian Service.
Karen Petrosyan, a resident of Chinari village, Tavush region, Armenia, fell captive to the Azerbaijani party on 7 August and died in captivity in doubtful circumstance a day after. Lawyer Gevorgyan said the Working Group comprising human rights defenders and lawyers met with Petrosyan's family and received their agreement to apply to the ECHR.
To recall, Azerbaijani authorities presented Karen Petrosyan as a subversionist, however residents of the Azerbaijani village Petrosyan crossed the border into say they communicated with him and he had no arms and wore civilian cloths.
Kristine Gevorgyan is also a member of the Working Group that lodged a claim to the ECHR over Mamikon Khojoyan's case ten days ago. Khojoyan, a 77-year-old Armenian man was repatriated to Armenia after spending a month in Azerbaijani captivity in March. Unfortunately, the man died in a 1.5- month after repatriation. "At present, they are studying the acceptance of the claim," the law told RFE/RL Armenian Service.
Mamikon Khojoyan was also presented as a subversionist in Baku. Armen Kaprielyan, the Head of the Working Group at the Committee for Captives, Hostages and the Missing, the Government of Armenia, says medical examinations revealed that Khojoyan was tortured, beaten up in captivity. Furthermore, they made him injections of diesel fuel and did a crescent tattoo on the old man's neck.
Besides Khojoyan's case, the Armenian party is working for repatriation of Sargis Ananyan, a 53-year-old resident of Noyemberyan, Tavush region, Armenia, who fell captive several weeks ago. Kaprielyan said he had a meeting with the head of the ICRC Office in Yerevan last week and was assured that Ananyan's has no health problems. No news are reported on Ananyan's repatriation yet.
