NIGHT FROM 2O TO 21 JANUARY PROVED TO BE THE MOST "SHOWY" IN ARMENIA
SINCE 2006
YEREVAN, JANUARY 21. ARMINFO. The night from January 2- to 21 has
become the most snowy in Armenia since the beginning of the year, the
weather forecaster on-duty at the State Service of Hydro-Meteorology
and Environment Monitoring Natalya Bisharyan told ARMINFO.
She said the heaviest snowfall was registered in Aragatsotn and
Kotayk regions. The maximum 34 mm snow was recorded in Hrazdan, the
depth being 64 sm. 19 mm snow was recorded in Jermuk, the depth being
65 sm. 9-15 mm snow was registered in Yerevan, the minimum volume of
snow fell in the area of Zvartnots airport. According to weather
forecasts, heavy snowfall continues in Tavush and Syunik regions.
However, it will stop snowing by the evening, forecasts say. The
lowest temperature by January 23 will be in Shirak ( -20-25 at night,
-3-8 in daytime). In Yerevan, the temperature will fell to -4-6 at
night and 0-2 in the daytime. Starting from January 24 the weather
will become warmer, but snowfall will become regular. The specialist
said today, on January 21, the geomagnetic field is stable, the
atmospheric pressure is low.
The snowfall has again "blocked" Selim Pass. The State Nonprofit
Organization "Armautoroads" told ARMINFO that snowstorm is roaring in
the Selim Pass at present. Therefore, the section of Artik-Aragats is
also closed, the road Aparan-Kuchak and the roads in the area of
Talin have become barely passable. Graders are working in the roads.
In Yerevan public transport and private cars faced difficulties with
the heavy snow in the streets. Snow-ploughs proved to be idling
already in the afternoon. However, neither municipal authorities nor
the prefecture explained the situation. The Police also provided no
information on the number of accidents in Yerevan.
