USA AMBASSADOR TO OSCE: RA GOVERNMENT HAS TO MAKE MORE EFFORTS TO
FIGHT TRAFFICKING
Yerevan, October 19. ArmInfo. RA Government has to make more efforts
to fight trafficking, the permanent Ambassador of the USA to OSCE,
Julie Finley, said at today's Yerevan seminar "National Program of
Strategy and Actions for Trafficking-Fight in Armenia".
According to her, it is already the second year Armenia, with a
second category, is reckoned among the countries in
trafficking-fight, which need special observance, and adequate
measures are to be developed to fight with this phenomenon as not to
fall under the third category. She added that Armenia has to develop
a new Plan of actions within the frames of the National Program since
the term of the present Plan expires in December, 2006. She noted
the development of the new Plan is a urgent issue. "The international
community is ready to assist Armenia, but the country's Government
has to be actively involved in this process as well", the diplomat
concluded.
To note, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and
Uzbekistan, as well as Turkmenistan as a "special case" have also
fallen into the list of countries, besides Armenia, which need a
special observance. The countries, included in a special list,
undergo analysis again within the frames of n intermediate
assessment. The results of these assessments are to be presented to
the USA Congress no later than February 1, 2007. The country, which
fallen under the third category, is given three months to correct the
situation and to implement corresponding reforms. Upon the
established term expiration, if the situation does not change,
sanctions are applied to the country, like reduction of financial
assistance, including a military assistance.
