SYUNIK REGION IN THE AREA OF THE HIGHEST SEISMIC RISK: RA NATIONAL
SEISMIC PROTECTION SERVICE
YEREVAN, JANUARY 19. ARMINFO. In 2005 the National Seismic Protection
Service (NSPS), RA Ministry of Territorial Administration, operated
in conformity with the RA legislation, the Law on Seismic Protection,
its Regulations and the Plan of Major Measures for 2005, says NSPS
report for 2005.
According to the report, in 2005 the Service monitored, assessed and
reduced the seismic risk in the territory of Armenia; fixed 160
earthquakes and their parameters; informed about 77 earthquakes
abroad. The report says that the seismic risk in the territory of
Armenia is especially high in the South-Eastern area of the country,
in particular, in Syunik region. This region lacks seismic energy,

Armenia drew an education program for the personal staff of the
garrisons of the country's armed forces, Yerevan Regiment of the
Defense Ministry, different officer staffs and the teaching staff of
V. Sargsyan Military Institute, Defense Ministry. Seismic protection
courses were organized for the second year cadets of the above
Institute. NSPS specialists published 4 books, over 80 articles,
booklets, posters etc.. They published 50 articles on seismic
protection in the press, spoke on radio and television (programs). A
new educational documentary film for the children of pre-school age
is currently shot, the report says.
