The Police's video recording of the opposition's rallies aims to prevent provocations and clashes, Head of Armenian Police Vladimir Gasparyan said during his meeting with Ambassador Heidi Tagliavini, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, the Police press service reports.
To note, Heritage Party's representatives have repeatedly stated that people in police uniforms and civvies were video recording the participants in the rallies in Armavir and Ararat regions. In this connection, Gasparyan said that such measures are being taken for security reasons, and the police do everything possible to prevent incidents during the mass rallies of Hovannisian's supporters.
Gasparyan stressed that the Police have a big experience in maintaining public order during elections and the police are committed to the principles of transparency and efficiency when working with political forces, observers and media representatives. He added that the police regularly inform the public of the course of investigation of the election violations.
The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia published the final results of the Feb 18 president Election on Feb 25. The winner is incumbent President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with 58.64% of the votes or 861,373 votes, followed by the leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian - 36.75% or 539,693, former Prime Minister of Armenia, the leader of Liberty Party Hrant Bagratyan - 2.15% or 31,643, the deader of National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan - 1.23% or 18,096, political scientist Andreas Ghukasyan - 0.57% or 8,329, folklorist Vardan Sedrakyan - 0.42% or 6,210 and former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikyan - 0.24% or 3,520. Raffi Hovannisian refuses to accept these figures and continues his protest actions all over Armenia.
