Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
The behavior of Moscow and its silence regarding the situation with Ramil Safarov is strange, director of the Centre for Regional studies, analyst Richard Giragossian, said at today's press-conference.
Safarov's extradition and his pardoning caused sharp indignation of the world community and the Armenians of the whole world. Several countries, including the USA, sharply criticized the actions of the authorities of Hungary and Azerbaijan.
Giragossian said that Washington's reaction was rather resolute and explicit. Incidentally, the USA was the first to officially reply to such a mad and vile step of Budapest and Baku, he said. "However, Russia's behavior and its silence gives me cause for reflection. Being Armenia's strategical partner Moscow did
not react at the events which are a direct result of the anti-Armenian hysteria, and finally are a threat to security of Armenia", - he said and added that passive behavior of the Kremlin is evidence of the real attitude of Russia towards its only ally in the South Caucasus.
