Former head of the Road Police of Armenia Margar Ohanyan has been set free under amnesty.
Ohanyan refused to meet with media. He was welcomed from prison by parliamentarians and businessmen. Margar Ohanyan was arrested in 2012. He was charged with abuse of official position (Article 308.2) and large- scale embezzlement of property (Article 179.3.1.).
By official data, in his capacity as Armenia's Road Police Chief, Margar Ohanyan had appropriated 574,420 liters of gasoline, which was allocated to the Road Police, and thus he caused tangible state damage. By unofficial data, Ohanyan was arrested for political views. Nevertheless, Ohanyan compensated most of the damage caused - 198 million drams - during the preliminary investigation.
